Condition: Excellent
Helmut Friedrich Schaffenacker (1921-2010), born in Ulm, Germany, was a versatile artist who worked in sculpture, painting, and, most notably, ceramics. After training with sculptor Rudolf Pauschinger and completing his studies, he founded Atelier Schaffenacker in 1948. Initially creating everyday objects like vases and bowls, his work evolved to include wall panels with relief decorations, often featuring highly stylized animals. As his reputation grew, he participated in trade fairs in Frankfurt, expanding his reach beyond Germany to neighboring countries. His workshop and staff grew steadily, moving to a larger studio in Ulm-Bofingen in 1960 to accommodate his three kilns and ten employees.
While celebrated for his ceramics, Schaffenacker also created sculptures and paintings in various materials, including bronze, stainless steel, wood, and stone, decorating numerous public and private spaces. Acknowledged with many national and international awards, he was lauded for his unique and extensive body of work, which has been described as unparalleled in the world of ceramic design. He ended his ceramics production in 1993 but continued to create and exhibit his work in other media until his death in 2010.
