Rod Charlesworth (b. 1955, Terrace, BC) is a Canadian painter whose vivid landscapes and whimsical figural works reflect a deep engagement with both Impressionism and the legacy of the Group of Seven. Born in northern British Columbia and raised in the Okanagan Valley, Charlesworth was initially influenced by the surrealists before discovering the Impressionist school, which helped shape his enduring fascination with colour, light, and the physical qualities of paint. Largely self-taught, with early studies at Okanagan College, he developed a distinctive style marked by bold colour, expressive brushwork, and a strong Canadian cultural sensibility. The work of Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven has had a profound influence on his artistic vision. Whether portraying sweeping western landscapes or playful scenes of children at play, Charlesworth's paintings celebrate the character, spirit, and vitality of Canada.
