Watercolour on paper. Lamont often painted in the Qu'Appelle Valley and the area around Last Mountain Lake. Signed lower right. Frame 15" x 17.5", Image 8" x 10.5". Condition: Good condition. Laura A. Lamont (1880 - 1970) was born in Tara, Ontario, she pursued her formal art education at the Central Ontario School of Art and Design in Toronto, likely graduating in the early 1900s. Following her studies, she worked as an art supervisor for the public school board in Brantford, Ontario, before relocating with her husband to Avonlea, Saskatchewan, in 1920. She taught art at the Avonlea Public School until 1925 when she moved to Regina where she was art instructor and supervisor until 1940, after which she became a private art instructor. Her detailed botanical illustrations eventually found a wide audience when they were featured in public school science textbooks. Lamont began exhibiting her work extensively across Saskatchewan in 1943.. She has pieces in several public collections, including the Saskatchewan Arts Board, the Dunlop Art Gallery in Regina, and the Remai Modern in Saskatoon.
